In Brief
The Alumni Association Board serves as the advisory body of the RIT Alumni Association. The Board’s primary responsibility is to provide leadership in developing and executing stimulating and engaging alumni programs and activities.
Selected from a wide spectrum of graduation years and geographic areas, approximately 40 Board members represent the voices of nearly 150,000 university alumni. In these highly visible leadership roles, Board members are chosen to commit talent, time, and resources to the university. Terms to the Board are three years. Committee Descriptions
Committees work together to achieve common goals of the Alumni Association Board. Each committee sets its own goals and reports on its accomplishments at the three annually held meetings. Committees include:
Establish the overall direction, strategy, and goals of the board and work with committees to ensure all objectives are met successfully and yearly evaluations are performed. Areas of focus include strategic planning, goals and metrics, and evaluation strategies. The Executive Committee consists of the president, vice president/president elect and secretary of the Alumni Association.
The purpose of the Membership Committee is to identify, research, and nominate new candidates for membership on the Alumni Association Board of Directors in accordance with guidelines, expectations, and timetables outlined in the bylaws and in compliance with the mission and vision of the university. The membership committee also oversees current member experience including onboarding and offboarding and overall member engagement.
The purpose of the Diversity and Inclusion committee is to spearhead the Alumni Association's efforts to represent diverse perspectives through the work of the board's various committees. Thus, promoting a culture of acceptance and welcoming across the entire campus community and the alumni association. The Committee will make recommendations to the Alumni Board for consideration by the university administration relative to inclusive and diverse approaches, examining programs, activities, policies, publications, and practices to identify exclusive outcomes, regardless of intent.

Description: Provide leadership for the RIT Alumni Association and Alumni Association Board of Directors. Provide service to RIT and encourage other alumni to give their time, talent, and treasures to the university. Assist the staff in planning, evaluating, and execution of alumni programs.
Staff Resources: Staff Resources are the senior director of Alumni and Constituent Engagement, the assistant vice president for Alumni and Constituent Relations, and the vice president for University Advancement.
Time Commitment: Two-year term, three full Alumni Association Board meetings per year, three Board of Trustees meetings, monthly Alumni Association Board Executive Committee meetings: average for the year is approximately 10-15 hours per month.
Major Responsibilities:
- Know and follow the mission of RIT and the RIT Alumni Association
- Be an active member
- Chair the three full Board meetings each year
- Chair the Executive Committee monthly meetings
- Attend the three Board of Trustees meetings each year
- Attend Reunion and play an active role during the fall weekend
- Participate in the Convocation and Commencement exercises
- Serve on at least one committee within the Alumni Association Board structure
- Attend as many Alumni Relations sponsored events as possible and encourage other alumni, parents and friends to join you
- Serve as host at a variety of Alumni Association Board events and gatherings
- Assist the Membership Committee and staff in identifying future alumni leaders
- Set an example for the Alumni board by participation financially in the life of the Institute
- Serve as an ambassador for quality higher education at RIT
- Exercise loyalty toward the Board and confidentiality regarding its internal affairs as discussed at meetings

In case of absence of the Chair, perform and be vested with all duties and powers of the Chair.
Staff Resources: Staff Resources are the senior director of Alumni and Constituent Relations, the assistant vice president of Alumni and Constituent Relations, and the vice president for University Advancement.
Time Commitment: Two-year term, three full Alumni Association Board meetings per year, monthly Alumni Association Board Executive Committee meetings: average for the year is approximately 6-8 hours per month.

The Secretary has the responsibility to (1) create agendas and reports for distribution to the Alumni Association Board, (2) track attendance at Alumni Association Board meetings, (3) manage minutes from Alumni Association Board meetings.
Staff Resources: Staff Resources are the senior director of Alumni and Constituent Relations, the assistant vice president of Alumni and Constituent Relations, and the vice president for University Advancement.
Time Commitment: Two-year term, three full Alumni Association Board meetings per year, monthly Alumni Association Board Executive Committee meetings: average for the year is approximately 6-8 hours per month.
