RIT offers family portrait sittings
Money raised will go toward student travel to 2013 Big Shot at Cowboys Stadium
If you haven’t had the chance to get your family’s holiday portrait taken yet, Rochester Institute of Technology is offering portrait sittings Dec. 15-16 as a fundraiser for the university’s annual Big Shot photography project.
The portrait location is the Crossroads building on the RIT campus (please park in S Lot). Only cash or checks accepted as payment. Props are not available at the site, but participants are welcome to bring their own. Photo backdrop is neutral.
The hours of the sittings are:
- 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15
- 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16
Note: No appointments are needed.
The pricing for the portrait sittings is as follows:
- 1-2 people: $25
- 3-4 people: $30
- 5-8 people: $40
- 8 or more people: $60
Following the sitting, a CD of images will be given to each family. Each family can have its photos printed at a location of their choice. RIT has partnered with Lumiere Photo, 100 College Ave., to offer prints at reduced rates.

RIT’s School of Photographic Arts and Sciences is running the fundraising event. All the money raised will pay for student travel to the Big Shot event at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in March 2013. The students have raised nearly $550 from portrait sessions held Dec. 8 and 9.
RIT’s photo school started the Big Shot project in 1987. The project requires hundreds of volunteers to provide the primary light source for the making of a nighttime photograph. Using flashlights or camera flash units, volunteers “paint” the landmark with light while RIT photographers shoot an extended exposure. Past Big Shot subjects have included The Alamo, the U.S.S. Intrepid, The Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian and the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film.
