Symposium connects RIT to local community

Two-day workshop will help forge collaborative community partnerships

Timothy Eatman, co-director of Imagining America and assistant professor of education at Syracuse University, will deliver a keynote speech on May 27 at the “Connecting Campus to Community Symposium.”

The Rochester Institute of Technology is hosting a two-day symposium that aims to strengthen the university’s connection to the greater Rochester community through collaborative partnerships.

The “Connecting Campus to Community Symposium” is co-sponsored by Faculty Career Development Services and the College of Liberal Arts and will be held from May 27 to May 28 in the Golisano Hall auditorium. Keynotes will be given by Timothy Eatman, co-director of Imagining America and assistant professor of education at Syracuse University, and Marisol Lopez, commissioner of the City of Rochester Department of Recreation and Youth Services. The agenda also includes a report and discussion from the Ad Hoc Task Force on Engaged Teaching, Research and Scholarship at RIT and an overview of the framework and best practices for engaged scholarship, among other topics.

Due to space limitations, registration is required to attend the symposium. Registration along with a complete agenda is available online.

“Collaborating with community partners locally, nationally and internationally is part of RIT’s DNA,” said Ann Howard, senior associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and chair of the Ad Hoc Task Force on Engaged Teaching, Research and Scholarship at RIT. “We hope that this symposium and our task force’s work will encourage more faculty members to consider this form of scholarship.”
