About the lab

The Niantic x RIT Geo Games and Media Research Lab serve as a focal point for geo games research and education at RIT and beyond.

The Niantic x RIT Geo Games and Media Research Lab is an interdisciplinary research lab sponsored by Niantic, the creators of the popular geo games Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom, and Ingress. The lab focuses on developing new geo games technologies, studying the design of geo games, and exploring the users of geo games, their experiences, and the impact geo games have on local and global cultures. It is located in the School of Interactive Games and Media, which is housed in the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences of Rochester Institute of Technology.
