Facilities
Your surroundings help shape who you are and who you may become. That’s why only the best facilities are found at RIT—so you can be at your best.
At RIT, we know your surroundings help shape who you are now and who you might become in the future. That’s why we’ve filled our campus with the latest equipment, technology, and conveniences and given our students the tools they need to excel. RIT offers academic facilities that are rarely matched on other campuses.
A sophisticated environment
In the academic heart of campus, you’ll find premier
facilities—classroom, laboratory, and research. There’s no question that
we have one of the most sophisticated, high-tech campuses in the nation, and we stay
ahead of the curve by continually investing in and upgrading our campus
infrastructure. We’ve taken a leadership role in academic computing, wiring
every nook and cranny of the university to give you maximum access to research and
information resources. Our network is accessible in classrooms, labs, residence halls, apartments, and many common areas around campus, with newer Gigabit Ethernet installations also in the mix. Wireless access is available in all academic areas and most public areas across campus. With multiple-connectivity ISPs, access to the Internet2® research network, a university-owned and -operated Dense Wave Division multiplexing network, and an 8-million-foot fiber-optic backbone, we provide free, direct, high-speed computing access that is hard to beat anywhere. In fact, The Princeton
Review has ranked RIT among the most connected campuses in the country.
Regardless of your major, you’ll work with the most up-to-date technology and equipment. And you’ll have plenty of access to campus facilities and resources outside of class. Get your hands on the same equipment you’ll use later on the job. Test your theories. See the results firsthand. That’s one way that RIT provides you with tomorrow’s education today.
Wallace Library is the campus hub for research and information exchange, housing
traditional and digital research materials conveniently under one roof. In addition
to books, magazines, journals, and newspapers, the library is an impressive
multimedia resource center providing films, audio recordings, videos, slides,
microforms, and CD-ROMs. Individual carrels and small-group rooms provide more than
1,000 study spaces for students.
The library’s entire catalog is on-line, and Web-based workstations provide access to a variety of campus and Internet resources. The library even offers wireless access to electronic databases and full-text electronic journals so you can roam the stacks with a laptop at hand, researching as you go. The library’s after-hours rooms are open 24 hours a day, and you can take a break from your books at Java Wally's coffee house whenever you need one.
The association of College and Research Libraries recently honored Wallace Library with its 2006 Excellence in Academic Libraries Award.
