FACEtime

About FACEtime

Face-to-face connections and hands-on experiences are of ultimate importance in our super-charged technological culture. We believe that new students need a program that facilitates friendship, adventure, connections, and engagement. So, we’ve designed an opportunity for students to get outdoors and make “face time” before they ever even take their first class at RIT.

All freshmen who have been accepted to RIT and paid their deposit by May 1, 2009 will be eligible for participation. Keep in mind, however, there is only one trip and group size is limited. Participants will arrive at RIT one day prior to trip departure for info sessions, trip preparation, and team building and will camp overnight in the Red Barn. The group will depart Thursday morning and will return on Sunday. Participants will then head back home for the remainder of the summer. Specific trip dates and details can be found under Trips.

Goals of FACEtime

There are many reasons that FACEtime is such an important part of your collegiate journey and we want you to know it’s more than just a camping trip. Our goals and objectives include addressing the transition issues you face as a new student, helping you create affinity with your trip-mates and fellow students, and facilitating your personal development through challenging and gratifying outdoor pursuits. But, ultimately, we just thought this was a really cool way to help you adjust, engage, and gear up for success at RIT.

There are ten core goals of the program:

  1. Facilitate a positive transition to college through adventure programs
  2. Motivate, engage, and connect students to each other and the university
  3. Learn about and discuss college life issues and campus resources
  4. Practice responsibility for personal behaviors and choices
  5. Comprehend the value of environmental stewardship and outdoor recreation
  6. Foster an understanding of healthy social dynamics, with and without technology
  7. Encourage challenge by choice and the acquisition of new skills
  8. Increase self-confidence and self-actualization
  9. Create a culture of transformational learning that aligns with the academic setting
  10. Have fun!
