AMITRAJEET A. BATABYAL IS ARTHUR J. GOSNELL PROFESSOR OF ECONOMICS IN THE COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS. HE USES MICROECONOMIC THEORY AND A WHOLE HOST OF MATHEMATICAL TECHNIQUES TO MODEL AND THEREBY BETTER UNDERSTAND PROBLEMS IN ENVIRONMENTAL AND REGIONAL ECONOMICS.
Dr. Batabyal has broad research interests and he has worked on problems as diverse as the design of international environmental agreements, the conduct of trade policy by developing nations when their export goods are polluting, the properties of alternate decision making rules in arranged marriages, the management of invasive species, and economic growth in innovative regions.
He has published over 500 papers, books, book chapters, and book reviews in a variety of refereed scholarly outlets in ecology, economics, mathematics, operations research, and political science. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Geoffrey J. D. Hewings Award from the North American Regional Science Council in 2003, the Moss Madden Memorial Medal from the British and Irish Section of the Regional Science Association International in 2004, the Outstanding Achievement in Research Award from the Society for Range Management in 2006, and the Trustees Scholarship Award from the RIT Board of Trustees in 2007.
