Carl Chiarenza

Carl Chiarenza, noted photographer and art educator, was born 1935 in Rochester NY. He received an A.A.S. (1955) and a B.F.A. (1957) from Rochester Institute of Technology, a M.S. (1959) and A.M. (1964) from Boston University and the Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1973. Chiarenza has lectured and taught workshops at over 100 institutions in 33 states since 1966.

He is the author of numerous essays and of the critical biography, Aaron Siskind: Pleasures and Terrors (Little, Brown, Boston, 1982). His photographs have been seen in over 90 one-person, and in over 280 group exhibitions since 1957.

Chiarenza has been reviewing books on photography for CHOICE since 1981, and has written over 110 reviews to date -- and counting.
