Eric Gill

British artist Eric Gill (1882-1940) is best known for designing popular type faces, the most widely used of which is Gill Sans. He also worked as an engraver and sculptor. His work was deeply influenced by his Catholic faith. He began his career carving letterforms into tombstones and other stone memorials in and around London.
