Philip W. Bornarth
Philip William Bornarth (1929-2022), a landscape painter and Professor Emeritus from RIT, was born in Chicago to Mary Sullivan Bornarth and Louis O. Bornarth, both well known artists in the Chicago area. Bornarth attend the Art Institute of Chicago, achieving a Master of Art Education from Northwestern University. He received a scholarship to Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture in Maine and a traveling fellowship to Italy and Spain. He served two years with the US Army during the Korean War.
His first teaching position was at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, but in 1960 he began teaching drawing and painting at RIT. Bornarth served on the RIT faculty until his retirement 39 years later.
Mr. Bornarth passed away on June 29, 2022 at age 92.
