Bio
Dr. Daqing "DQ" Hou is a Professor and Chairperson in Department of Software Engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). His research interests include Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, and Software Education. His software engineering research focuses on finding ways to produce better software faster, including software education (focused on Project-based Learning, or PjBL). This often entails empirical studies, tools building, and consideration of human factors. He is also interested in using software to solve real-world problems, for example, behavioral biometrics (keystroke dynamics, mouse dynamics, mobile behavioral biometrics, etc), smart housing, and smart energy.
Supported by National Science Foundation (NSF), his work in Project-based Learning and Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) has advanced innovative approaches in both education and research. At RIT, where experiential learning and cooperative education (co-op) are core to the curriculum, DQ aims to integrate these methods into teaching. His emphasis on authentic, hands-on learning will help prepare students to meet the challenges of the software industry.
