Bio

Kara joined the RIT community in 2018.  At RIT, she has primarily served as an Academic Advisor in the School of Interactive Games and Media and has now transitioned to the Assistant Director for Student Success.  In this position, Kara continues to participate as a member of the GCCIS advising team.  In collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Student Success, she facilitates and implements student success initiatives, professional development opportunities as well as the onboarding and training of new advisors. Kara also manages the GCCIS Tutoring Center and administers the Computing Exploration program in partnership with the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.  She earned her B.S. in Health Science from SUNY Brockport and her M.S. in Mental Health Counseling from St. John Fisher University.  In addition, Kara periodically serves as a Mentor and Adjunct Faculty member for the College Restoration Program.

Outside of RIT, you can find Kara and her family on one of the nearby Finger Lakes or cheering on the Buffalo Bills.

1 Credits
A one credit-hour course for the Computing Exploration students, including an overview of the computing disciplines and an introduction to seven computing and informatics academic programs: Computer Science, Computing and Information Technologies, Computing Security, Human-Centered Computing, New Media Interactive Development, Software Engineering, Web and Mobile Computing, as well as a few other computing programs outside the college. Curricula requirements of the seven programs and career opportunities in the computing fields are discussed. Potential employers discuss job opportunities. Introductions to the faculty, students, and laboratory facilities of the seven programs are provided. Cooperative education, study abroad, and innovation fellowship program opportunities available to the students are explored.
