RIT hosts cybersecurity forum
Upstate New York Regional Cybersecurity Forum hosted by Logical Operations
Business leaders and cybersecurity experts will gather at Rochester Institute of Technology on June 14 to discuss ways to increase cybersecurity awareness and change behavior in order to keep data secure.
The Upstate New York Regional Cybersecurity Forum, sponsored by Logical Operations, will educate consumers and businesses about actionable steps they can take to protect themselves against cyber threats. The forum will provide a unique opportunity for representatives from academia, law enforcement and industry to interact with the business community, as they discuss how to keep personal and corporation data secure.
The Upstate New York Regional Cybersecurity Forum is from 9–11 a.m. June 14 at RIT’s Louise Slaughter Hall, room 2210–2240. The event is free and registration is required.
“Small and medium-sized businesses can be very vulnerable to cyberattacks, because they don’t always have the resources to acquire state-of-the-art equipment and cybersecurity professionals,” said Bo Yuan, chair of RIT’s Department of Computing Security. “By educating these businesses and the public about best practices in the industry, we can begin to improve cybersecurity one step at a time.”
The morning event will include discussion on cybersecurity best practices and tips for protecting personal or company data, led by a representative from the Secret Service. Attendees will also have the chance to participate in an “Ask the Experts” panel.
The event will include remarks from:
- RIT President Bill Destler
- A Secret Service agent from the Buffalo division
- Chaim Sanders, a lecturer in the Department of Computing Security in RIT’s B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences
- Paul Greene, Privacy and Data Security Practice Group Chair, Harter Secrest & Emery LLP
- Jason Ross, senior consultant of NCC Group
- Bill Rosenthal, CEO of Logical Operations
“Better Business Bureau of Upstate New York is making the commitment to our Accredited Businesses to take a proactive approach to cybersecurity,” said Warren Clark, president and CEO of BBB. “We know the first step for securing technology is to understand and manage risks, which is why this cybersecurity forum is so critical.”
Logical Operations, the world’s leading provider of information technology instructor-led courseware, enables professionals to become the first line of response against cyber-attacks through hands-on, instructor-led training that prepares IT professionals to tackle real-life security incidents.
“Research has repeatedly shown that most security breaches start with human error,” said Bill Rosenthal, CEO of Logical Operations. “This event will highlight many simple steps people can take to live a safer personal and professional digital life.”
