Rochester Institute of Technology has created a new resource for game design and development instructors.

RIT’s School of Interactive Games and Media has published the first edition of the Journal of Game Design & Development Education, a peer-reviewed journal that covers all aspects of teaching the art, craft and science of game design and development to students in and out of a higher education setting.

“We’re excited to provide the community of game design and development educators with a new mechanism to learn about the latest research and developments in our field,” says Stephen Jacobs, the editor-in-chief of the publication and an RIT associate professor of interactive games and media. “It includes a strong set of articles and an excellent editorial board. We’re already soliciting new contributions and will publish at least once a year at the Game Developers Conference.”

The journal, which publishes original research, book reviews and survey articles, is currently available electronically at the JCODE website. Readers can also download a PDF version of the journal and soon will be able to purchase an on-demand print edition.

RIT’s game design and development program has recently received national recognition. The Princeton Review has ranked RIT’s graduate program fourth and its undergraduate program ninth in its second annual “Top Schools for Video Game Design Study for 2011.” The list will be published in the April edition of GamePro magazine.
