RIT ranks in Gizmodo’s top Degrees of the Future for 2022
Specialties in cybersecurity, environmental engineering, game design, and computer graphics recognized
Rochester Institute of Technology has been recognized by Gizmodo, a design, technology, science, and science fiction website, for its offerings related to the top Degrees of the Future for 2022. RIT was named for its specialties in cybersecurity, environmental engineering, game design, and computer graphics.
The list, comprised by Gizmodo and Statista, identified the top U.S. universities within fields of study that Gizmodo believes will define the 21st century. The website also looked for programs offering the best education in 25 disciplines, and surveyed students, practitioners, university employees, and alumni in each field.
The ranking was also based on statistical data published by the U.S. government, specifically the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), the College Scorecard, and the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). The analysis included 10 performance indicators on overall university level, such as enrollment and costs, and also indicators on fields of study level.
Anticipating emerging careers and the top skills needed in the changing workplace, RIT has seized on the opportunity to guide students to New Economy Majors that are multidisciplinary, transformative, and future-focused. From the RIT perspective, new economy majors seek to fill a skills gap faced by employers who must pivot quickly to the realities of the pandemic and the disruption caused by the future division of labor between humans and machines.
“Graduates need to have the skills to stay continuously relevant and have the flexibility, adaptability, and knowledge that allows them to flex in any direction their field requires,” said Ian Mortimer, RIT’s vice president for enrollment management and associate provost, RIT Certified. “All of these majors also incorporate essential tools of team building, effective communication, and leadership. We are thrilled to be part of this new ranking that validates what we already know to be true when it comes to providing our students with the tools to be sought after in their fields of study.”
