Join us as RIT honors Black Heritage Month. It’s a time for all of us to celebrate, educate, reflect, and have conversations on the achievements of Black people. Here are some of the activities:
View RIT student Athena Lemon’s new exhibition Lens and Legacy: A Visual Dialogue Between Bernie Boston and the Ramsey-Lemon Archive at the University Gallery. Join us for two special events in that space. An Opening Reception will be held on February 7th from 5pm-7pm. The exhibition runs through March 9th with a discussion on February 28 with the student curator Athena Lemon and Professor Joshua Rashaad McFadden. It is from 5pm-7pm. This event is co-sponsored by Diversity Education and RIT Archives.
Hop on the bus and check out the off-site film screening of One Love (Bob Marley's biopic) February 14th. Buses leave campus from the Sentinel Statue at 5:45 pm. The show begins at 6:30 pm. Captions are provided. Register via Campus Groups. The College Activities Board and Diversity Education are planning this event.
Black Heritage Month Mixer on February 15, 5pm-7pm in Gracie's featuring an alumni panel. The event is co-sponsored by the Division of Diversity and Inclusion and University Advancement. The first 70 faculty, staff and students to register will have their meal paid for. Menu is inspired by the African Diaspora. Register here.
Student trip to Memorial Art Gallery’s Black History Month Celebration, 1pm-4pm February 18th. The experience is co-sponsored by the Diversity Education and the Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement's Into the Roc program. Click here for details
Black Mental Health Week will be held from February 19 - February 23. The kickoff is on the 19th in Fireside Lounge from 11 am-2 pm. This is a partnership between MCAS and Counseling and Psychological Services.
RIT’s Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies presents "WGSS Movie Night " featuring “Moonlight” February 26, 7:00pm-9:30pm, LBR-1251 McKenzie Commons. Sodas and snacks will be available during and after the movie.
NTID Office of Diversity and Inclusion hosts the annual Johnnie “JB” Brown Black History Month Luncheon, Wednesday, February 28th from 11am-1pm in SDC-1300/1310. Please RSVP by February 19th to Ellen R. Johnson at erjnbt@rit.edu.
