Emergency Response Stations

Overview

RIT has emergency response stations across campus. These stations are designed to provide quick access to life-saving equipment. They are strategically located throughout campus to ensure they are easily accessible.

Included in Each Station

Each station is equipped with and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Naloxone (also known by the brand name Narcan).

An AED is used to help someone who is experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. Watch the Phillips HeartStart Demo Video to learn more about how an AED works.

Naloxone, also known as Narcan is a medicine that rapidly reverses an opioid overdose.

Locations

We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the locations of these emergency response stations by searching "AED" in the RIT Interactive Campus Map. Signage will also be posted on entrance doors in each building to indicate the nearest station.

Training

While proper training is required, bystanders can still play a crucial role by following the instructions provided at the station to assist until trained personnel arrive. In the event of an emergency:

  • Immediately contact Public Safety at 585-475-3333 or text 585-205-8333
  •  Utilize TigerSafe, the official safety app for the RIT community

All certified AED responders must complete a recognized AED/CPR program.

On-campus Trainings

RIT is offering free, educational training sessions for faculty and staff. The two-hour class will provide hands-on instruction in CPR techniques, the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), Narcan administration, and the “Stop the Bleed” training, which includes how and when to use a tourniquet. While the sessions are non-certified, they will equip participants with valuable life-saving skills.
