Faculty Fellow Highlight

Meet Garret Arcoraci, a CTL Faculty Fellow from the Golisano School of Computing and Information Sciences. In his third year, Garret has led workshops, presented at symposiums, and ran a Tech-Enhanced Teaching Circle. His focus is on active learning and using platforms like Kritik to enhance teaching while managing instructor workload through student engagement and peer assessment. Throughout his time as a fellow Garret’s expertise in active learning has grown, and he advocates for technology to improve student outcomes and instructional efficiency. Ensure Your Gradebook is Ready for Semester’s End

As we approach the end of the semester, it can be helpful to double-check your myCourses gradebook setup. We strongly recommend that you review the setup from both the Manage Grades view and the Enter Grades view. Doing this review now will help to ensure that the final grade is calculated as you intend.

The Center for Teaching and Learning is available to meet with you to discuss your myCourses gradebook setup. Most gradebook issues can be resolved in a 20 minute consultation - schedule one today!

Resolve Flickering on TVs/Projectors

If your classroom projector or flat panel display flickers when connected to a Mac or iPad using Adaptive Sync, it may be due to variable refresh rate settings. While Adaptive Sync enhances video playback and gaming, it can cause flickering in other situations.

To resolve this issue, disable the variable refresh rate in display settings or verify compatibility with your Mac. For more information, refer to Apple Support.

Classroom Reminder

Turn off Classroom AV

To help RIT become a greener campus, please remember to turn off all AV equipment at the conclusion of your class. We have been observing an increased number of AV systems left on throughout the day and into the evening.

By turning off the AV equipment at the conclusion of your classes, we will extend the lifetime of the AV technology, along with reducing our energy consumption and carbon footprint. This is a small step that can make a big difference in helping to protect the environment.

Tool Tip

Checking Similarity Outside of myCourses Assignments

Turnitin Draft Coach in Google Docs allows RIT students and instructors to run a similarity check, citations check, and grammar check on their draft documents while writing in Google Docs.

Instructors can use the Turnitin website to check similarity for RIT-related documents that are not affiliated with a specific course. Examples include thesis, dissertations, or papers for publication.
