Seeking Feedback about RIT Academic Technologies

The Center for Teaching and Learning would like your feedback on the state of academic technology at RIT. We send this survey to faculty every other year. We value your opinion; if you completed this survey in past years, we encourage you to complete it again!

This survey should take about 10 minutes to complete. The results of this survey will help us prioritize future technology investigations, assess which technologies we should change, and develop services that would better help you use the technologies currently available.

The survey will close October 18, 2024.

Faculty Fellow Highlight

Introducing your CTL Faculty Fellow in AI Professor Shaun Foster (CAD). Shaun joined the Faculty Fellows team last year and quickly dug deep into generative AI tools to enhance teaching and learning from a faculty perspective. Shaun is currently running a teaching circle that explores the practical use of AI, and has regularly presented at RIT AI events on the subject. An award winning instructor and firm believer in sharing his findings in as many ways as possible – including his AI for educators YouTube channel where he explores hands on, a range of available tools! As a Faculty Fellow he is available to meet colleagues for a personal or team consultation – feel free to give him a shout!

RIT GenAI Syllabus Statement Examples

We have heard a number of RIT faculty request guidance on developing syllabus and course statements related to the use of Generative AI. In response, the Center for Teaching and Learning recently redeveloped our GenAI in Teaching guidance to include RIT GenAI syllabus statement guidance.

The CTL started a repository of RIT faculty GenAI syllabus statements for the teaching and learning community to reference. We are still collecting GenAI syllabus statements from faculty in all disciplines who are willing to share.

Please submit any GenAI syllabus statements you wish to share with the RIT faculty community by clicking the orange button. We thank you, in advance, for your collegiality!

Resolve Flickering on TVs/Projectors

If your classroom projector or flat panel display flickers when connected to a Mac or iPad using Adaptive Sync, it may be due to variable refresh rate settings. While Adaptive Sync enhances video playback and gaming, it can cause flickering in other situations.

To resolve this issue, disable the variable refresh rate in display settings or verify compatibility with your Mac. For more information, refer to Apple Support.

Classroom Reminder

Use Lectern Controls for TVs/Projectors

Need to adjust the TV or projector in your classroom?
The lectern in your classroom is equipped with a touch panel or buttons to control the TVs and projectors, making it easy to manage the AV equipment. These controls are designed to ensure smooth operation and minimize disruptions during your class.

If you encounter any issues, please contact our team for prompt assistance. We're here to help you maintain a seamless teaching experience. Avoid manually adjusting the TV or projector directly, as doing so may cause or worsen technical issues.
