Your RIT Student ID card is one of the most important things you'll need to successfully navigate life on campus. We encourage you to keep your ID on you at all times as you'll need it for dining purchases, access to housing, recreation and fitness facilities, and other buildings. Your photo is also used in several student systems where advisors and instructors can see them, helping to put a face to your name.
Make sure your ID is ready for you when you arrive by completing the steps below as soon as possible:
Enter your chosen name in the Display name field at start.rit.edu
if you wish to have your chosen name printed on your ID card.
We encourage you to complete this process as early as possible to ensure your ID card is printed appropriately. Resident students will receive their ID during Move-In and commuter students will pick up their ID during Orientation check-in.
Fuel your body and mind with RIT Dining's diverse menus, offering an array of international cuisine, house-made specials, special dietary offerings, and desserts. With ten restaurants, five coffee shops, three convenience stores, venue concessions, and a full-service catering department, there’s always something new and exciting to try, right on campus.
Take control of your dining experience with our build-your-own-menus, allowing you to customize your meals to meet your preferences and dietary needs. Our convenience stores are stocked with everything you need, including fresh fruits, high-quality meats, health care, laundry, and toiletry items. Everything is steps from your classes, on-campus housing, recreation facilities, and lounge areas.
Are you curious about navigating eating on campus due to specific dietary needs or meal preferences? If so, we recommend you schedule an appointment.
Parking and Transportation
If you plan to bring a vehicle to campus, you must purchase a parking permit annually at the start of the academic year through the MyParking Portal. Review the parking permit options
so you are prepared to purchase your permit when sales begin on Wednesday, Aug. 14.
RIT has on-campus transportation services to make your everyday commute to, from, and around campus easier. Learn about campus transportation and ParkMobile parking options on the Parking and Transportation Services website.
Information for Commuter Students
If you are not planning to live in RIT Housing, you are considered a commuter student. As a commuter student, you have the opportunity to participate in Commuter Orientation and will have access to commuter-only resources through Off-Campus and Commuter Services.
Commuter Orientation In addition to your New Student Orientation experience, commuter students have the opportunity to join Off-Campus and Commuter Services for Commuter Orientation from 4:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20. Meet other commuter and off-campus students, learn about resources and spaces available on campus just for commuter students, and enjoy a catered dinner. You’ll also learn more about parking on campus, how to get involved in clubs and organizations at RIT, and have a chance to win a free reserved lot parking space!
There will also be opportunities to meet other commuters throughout Orientation including Wednesday night for Glow Mini Golf and Friday morning for our first Commuter Breakfast in the Basement of the year. Additional commuter meet ups will be available on Friday and Saturday evenings, so you can attend Orientation events and make connections with other commuter students.
