Move-In Instructions
If your student is living in RIT Housing, please make sure they confirm their appointment time in the myRIT portal and print their Move-In Dashboard Pass before you arrive on campus. It is essential to arrive on your selected day and time in order to alleviate congestion and provide the best move-in experience for all.

Move-in process for Residence Halls assigned students:

• Enter RIT at the main entrance off of Jefferson Road on to Lomb Memorial Drive. Turn right onto Levi Ward Road. Turn left onto Willam & Mortimor Reynolds Drive and another left into H Lot. 
• Enter the lane based on your student's last name to pick up your student's room key and RIT ID. The great news–you can do the entire key pick up directly from your car.
• Exit the lot and turn left onto Andrews Memorial Drive. Follow the colored balloons to your student's Residence Hall. You will enter a colored drop zone where you can park and unload your car to begin moving in.
• After you unload your car, you will be directed to a parking lot near the Residence Halls.

Move-in process for RIT Inn assigned students:

• Please go directly to the RIT Inn and pick up your student's key and RIT ID at the front desk.

All Move-In information, including maps, arrival instructions, what to bring checklists, and Move-In Dashboard Pass and Luggage Tags are available on the Fall Move-In website. 

What to Pack for COVID Identification and Care
Along with the What to Bring Checklists you can find in the printable resource section of the Move-In Guide, we suggest you consider sending the following with your student as we shift to a self-monitoring mode for COVID identification and care:

• Antigen/home COVID tests. Work with your local pharmacy to get home COVID tests through your insurance or through the federal government.
• Well-fitting masks. Send several KN95/N95 masks to campus. We will likely have intermittent infection surges and mask requirements on campus may change.
• Thermometer. Thermometers are a good idea so students can check their temperature when not feeling well.  
• Over the counter symptom relief medications. Home medical supplies including acetaminophen/Tylenol, sore throat lozenges, and simple food such as instant noodles, tea, and broth are useful to have on hand.

Family Orientation Highlights 
Family Orientation programming will take place on your student’s Welcome/Move-In Day. If your student will not be living in RIT Housing, you have the opportunity to attend on either August 14 or August 15. 

The purpose of Family Orientation is to introduce you to campus, provide opportunities to meet other new RIT families, and have time to settle your student in. Family programming is very flexible in order to accommodate each family’s individual needs. Programming highlights include:

• Resource Fair. The Resource Fair allows new students and their families to get their questions answered, meet with staff members, take care of business, and get information regarding the resources and services available at RIT and in the community. Don’t forget to grab your $10 family t-shirt! 

• Information Sessions. Deep dive into topics that you would like more information on, including study abroad, health and wellness services, public saftey, university advising, and more. 

• Welcome to RIT. Join Parent and Family Programs and RIT Orientation for an official welcome to RIT, which will share what students will experience at Orientation and how families should plan for the first couple weeks of college. 

• Parent and Family Happy Hour. Grab a drink and relax after a long day with other Tiger Parents in our beautiful hockey arena, Gene Polisseni Center. 

You can find an outline of the schedule on the Orientation Calendar by selecting "Family Orientation" or "Welcome Day" on August 14 or 15. The full schedule will be available by the end of July.

Student Class Schedules
Academic departments are currently in the process of registering all incoming students for fall term classes. Students will be able to access their preliminary schedules by early August by logging into the Student Information System (SIS). Schedules will be adjusted as official Advanced Placement (AP) scores, official college transcripts, and RIT placement test scores are received.

If your student has a question about their schedule, they can reach out to their academic advisor when schedules are released. They can find the name and contact information of their advisor on SIS. They will also have the opportunity to meet with their advisor during Orientation. 

Parent Access to Student Accounts
You may be used to managing accounts for your student, but college is the perfect time to support your student with reminders and tips rather than you having direct access. There are certain parts of their account, however, that you may need to access. Students can authorize parent access to aspects of their accounts, including the bill, through eServices. Through third-party access, you will be able to log in to eServices using your own RIT username and password to view the information to which your student granted you access. 

Fall Billing & Payment Options
All billing notifications are sent electronically to students at their RIT email address. In order to receive this notification, your student has to grant you parent access to their eServices account.

The fall 2022 billing statement was generated the first week of July. Please visit the Student Financial Services website for more information about billing, due dates, and an optional payment plan.

Health Insurance
RIT expects all students to have health insurance. Health insurance coverage ensures that your student receives the appropriate medical care in the event of an injury or illness that requires prescription medication, a referral to a specialist, or even hospitalization. Health insurance may be obtained through the university, or through family or individual policies.

If your student will use a family plan, please contact the company to determine what coverage your student has in Rochester, as many companies have limited out-of-network coverage. If your student will not be on a family plan, RIT offers a robust student health insurance plan with an expansive provider network across the U.S. and out-of-network benefits. Learn more about health insurance requirements here.
