Major Change to myCourses Notification Options
Hello,
You are receiving this message because your myCourses settings are currently configured to send notifications by text message (aka SMS) and/or to a custom email address.
On July 19, 2024, SMS and custom email address contact methods will no longer be available for myCourses notifications. You will still be able to send myCourses notifications to your system (RIT) email address or to receive push notifications in the Pulse app.
What will happen to my notifications when this change is made?
SMS
- If you have configured your myCourses settings to send SMS notifications, you will no longer receive SMS notifications. Your mobile number and associated information will be deleted from the notification settings in myCourses. If you want to continue receiving notifications, you need to configure your settings for system email address notifications or configure push notifications in the Pulse app.
Email Address
- If you have configured your myCourses settings to send email notifications to a custom email, your custom email address will be automatically replaced with your system email address. Any previously configured notifications will now go to your system email address. You can review and adjust which items you are notified about in your myCourses notification settings.
- If you have configured your myCourses settings to send email notifications to your system email, nothing will change to these types of notifications.
Why is this change happening?
The myCourses vendor will be removing the option to configure SMS notifications because the service used to facilitate these types of notifications is being deprecated by mobile carriers.
In order to align with ITS data security regarding forwarding of faculty/staff email, RIT is no longer offering the option to send myCourses notifications to custom email addresses.
