Elizabeth P. Torrey
Elizabeth P. Torrey is the parent of a third-year student in the College of Engineering Technology, and passionate about diversity, inclusion, and education as a catalyst for change. She began her career in the non-profit sector in New York City, and later worked in Washington, DC in public service. She marketed and underwrote political risk insurance for US multinational corporations, small and medium size businesses, and non-profits investing in countries in Asia, Latin America, and Africa. She was fortunate to travel to, and work in many countries in Europe, Central America and Africa.
More recently, she served as a Financial Planner and Advisor at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management. She served on the board of an educational non-profit where she focused on programs and fundraising. She was also a founding member of a public-private partnership that developed an inclusive local elementary school playground to meet the needs of all children including those with physical, sensory, and other medical challenges. Elizabeth was born in Evansville, IN, and grew up in Philadelphia, PA. She holds a BA from Trinity College, Connecticut, and an MA in International Affairs from Johns Hopkins University. She and her husband reside in Bethesda, MD where their two sons participated in the Project Lead the Way Engineering curriculum at the local public high school. When she is not volunteering, Elizabeth enjoys travel, reading, bicycling, and maintaining her French language skills.
