Fernando Naveda to lead calendar conversion effort
Software engineering chair appointed calendar conversion director
RIT now has a point-person to oversee its academic calendar conversion from quarters to semesters. Fernando Naveda, formerly chair of software engineering in the B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, has been named the Academic Affairs Calendar Conversion Director by RIT Provost Jeremy Haefner.
“With extensive experience as a faculty member in the computing field and over nine years as a department chair, Fernando will bring to the conversion project the leadership, skills and experience that will successfully guide Academic Affairs through this important phase,” says Haefner. “I was particularly struck by the commitment to students and to the university that Fernando articulated.”
Naveda joined RIT’s Department of Computer Science in 1993. He eventually teamed with professor Mike Lutz to design and launch the nation’s first undergraduate software engineering program. He was appointed chair of the department in 2001.
Naveda officially began his new role April 15.
