SD-CoMETS Scholars - Jessica Cye

My name is Jessica Cye and I am majoring in Electrical Engineering Technology. I chose this major because I have been interested in circuitry and how it works since my middle school years. I also chose Engineering Technology versus Engineering because I prefer to work hands on instead of learning the topics only based on the theory.

I feel as though I have been very successful during my time here at RIT. During my fall semester, I participated in a variety of activities including clubs, sports, and having an on campus job. I received a 4.000 GPA and made it onto the Dean's list as well. Another big accomplishment of mine is working with the department as a Lab Assistant during my first year in the spring semester. My goals and aspirations in college include continuously getting high grades, continuing working as a Lab Assistant, making connections, and growing my knowledge.

In the future, a career that I see for myself includes working with creating kids toys in order to get them more involved in STEM. When I was younger, I got interested in STEM through playing with Snap Circuits and I believe that getting children involved with STEM topics at a young age can be very engaging for the children.

SD CoMETS helped me through my first year of college in many ways. They helped me to grow more independent as a student, gain confidence, learn new study habits, learn how to communicate with fellow students and professors, and learn how to grow connections throughout my field.
