ASL Lecture Series: Imposter Syndrome and Victories: My Journey to the Professoriate
Leah Zarchy presents a short description of her collaborative work on an upcoming book chapter called “1001 Small Victories: Deaf Academics & Imposter Syndrome” and weaves the shared experiences from the book chapter with her personal journey to the professoriate. Imposterism -- the feeling of not belonging because one feels unqualified -- is a feeling many people, but especially marginalized people experience in the academy.
Zarchy is associate professor and program coordinator of American Sign Language and Deaf Studies at California State University, Sacramento. She received a master’s degree in Linguistics at Gallaudet University and a PhD in linguistics from The University of Texas at Austin. Her recent work involved co-authoring an ASL curriculum for families with young deaf children called, “ASL at Home,” along with supplemental curriculum materials.
