New Faculty Joining the Ph.D. Program in Fall 2024

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Ph.D. program is welcoming Dr. Mohammad Javad Khojasteh, who will be joining the department of electrical and microelectronic engineering in Fall 2024 as Gleason Endowed Assistant Professor. Dr. Khojasteh, currently a postdoctoral scholar at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and a visiting scholar in the department of mechanical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), will also be affiliated with the ESL Global Cybersecurity Institute. Prior to his affiliation with MIT, he received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California San Diego in 2019 and held a postdoctoral position at the California Institute of Technology.

At the Rochester Institute of Technology, Dr. Khojasteh will be establishing the Khojasteh Autonomous Systems Laboratory (KAS Lab), which aims to advance research in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Ph.D. program, focusing on:

  • developing scientific principles for autonomous robot systems, integrating artificial intelligence and robotics to enhance the security, safety, and efficiency of these systems
  • innovating new methods in machine learning and marine robotics for autonomous data collection at sea
  • advancing fundamental knowledge in quantum technologies to achieve supremacy in sensing and computing

Dr. Khojasteh shares the vision of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Ph.D. program in cultivating the next generation of researchers and engineers. The KAS Lab offers a dynamic and collaborative research environment, providing students with valuable experience in both the theoretical and practical aspects of cutting-edge technologies.

Dr. Khojasteh is looking for motivated Ph.D. students to join the KAS Lab and participate in world-class multidisciplinary research. Interested students can contact Dr. Khojasteh at mjkeme@rit.edu.
