RIT named one of nation’s best midsize employers

New ‘Forbes’ survey ranks the university fourth among higher education

Rochester Institute of Technology has been recognized by Forbes on its 2019 list of “America's Best Midsize Employers.” RIT earned 66th place overall on the list of 500 companies and is the fourth-highest ranked university of the 35 universities listed.

“RIT’s ranking on the new Forbes survey demonstrates our faculty and staff’s strong connection to our university, reflecting a sense of pride in our mission,” said Judy Bender, RIT’s associate vice president of Human Resources. “The independent survey asks individuals to rate different criteria, including working conditions, salary and if the employee would recommend their employer to others. The results signify our employees’ appreciation for RIT’s benefits programs, flexibility regarding work-life balance and our commitment to employee health and well-being.”

Forbes and Statista, a research firm based in Hamburg, Germany, worked together to compile the list, which focused on companies with 1,000 to 5,000 employees. About 50,000 U.S. workers were surveyed by Statista about their opinions of their employers.

RIT employs approximately 4,000 faculty and staff.
