'87 AS Chemistry, BS Biotechnology
Edward Shanshala ’87, MS ‘00 earned his AS in chemistry, BS in biotechnology with a minor in philosophy at RIT and then his MS of education and human development from University of Rochester Warner School and his MS in health systems administration from RIT. With a foundational goal of finding a better way, Ed enjoys being part of a team that wrestles with the hard questions facing today’s healthcare. He is a leader in healthcare at a time that is demanding a paradigmatic shift in how we think about individual and population-based health.
His eclectic and circuitous career includes, Reengineering Project Coordinator where he helped Strong Memorial Hospital save $17.8 million across all programs. Then he went on to be the Director of Quality Improvement and Education Enhancement at Finger Lakes Visiting Nurse Service and Ontario Yates Hospice, to Interim CEO and VP of Operations at Rochester Primary Care Network, to COO of Ammonoosuc Community Health Services where he now serves as CEO.
Together with his team they seek to redefine the funding of healthcare as an investment with a return on investment, and to create support structures for individuals and populations to take accountability for their healthcare choices now and for future generations. Ed was honored with the 1999 College of Health Sciences and Technology Distinguished Alumni Award.
