Head of health system joins RIT faculty

Growing synergy strengthens RIT & Rochester Regional Alliance

Dr. Daniel Ornt, RIT vice president and dean of the Institute and College of Health Sciences and Technology

Rochester Institute of Technology has named Rochester Regional Health System President and CEO Dr. Eric Bieber clinical professor of health sciences in the College of Health Sciences and Technology.

The faculty appointment illustrates growing momentum in the RIT & Rochester Regional Alliance, a partnership now in its sixth year, and further cements ties between leadership at the health system and university.

“I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Bieber while he was at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland,” said Dr. Daniel Ornt, RIT vice president and dean of the Institute and College of Health Sciences and Technology. “As a physician leader with years of experience in an academic setting, Dr. Bieber understands the enormous potential of collaboration between an institution like RIT and an integrated health system like Rochester Regional. I am confident that, together, we will make great strides educating RIT students and exploring technological solutions designed to improve the health and wellness of our community.”

Ornt foresees Bieber interacting with RIT students in the classroom and in the health system. He said Bieber’s contributions would enhance leadership training in programs like RIT’s graduate degree in health systems administration and in clinical areas of the physician assistant program.

“I am excited about the potential that this collaboration offers,” Bieber said. “Together we can drive innovation in how health care is delivered through technology, creativity and education.”

RIT & Rochester Regional Alliance has led to opportunities that benefit both institutions and enhance the education of RIT students through initiatives like the health coaching program, the Rochester Regional sports medicine program for RIT’s NCAA Division III and I athletic programs, and the Rochester Regional primary care clinic, slated to open in the fall on the RIT campus for faculty, staff and dependents, and community members.

About the RIT & Rochester Regional Alliance

The partnership between RIT and Rochester Regional, established in 2008, created the Institute of Health Sciences and Technology to provide a framework for collaborative research, outreach and academics. In 2011, RIT opened the College of Health Sciences and Technology to fulfill the third objective, focusing on education related to wellness and progressive, preventive approaches
to maintaining and enhancing the population’s health. RIT, in fall 2015, expects to open the Clinical Health Sciences Center, a 45,000-square-foot facility that will house the Wegmans School of Health and Nutrition, physician assistant and diagnostic medical sonography programs, forensic clinical psychology research, the Center for Applied Psychophysiology and Self-regulation, and a primary care clinic operated by the Rochester Regional Health System.
