Mock Trials and Training
By May 2023, the Honduran Red Cross and Hospital Escuela were prepared for a mock trial and training exercises with the neonatal ambulance. The challenge was to help the HRC paramedics and drivers become active participants not only in the training but in how the service is to be run. Focus groups and debrief meetings recorded first hand experiences with the vehicle, the service, and training. The transports were recorded using a gopro camera and cell phone video. The footage was cut together to record the transports, the videos were analyzed to improve training and write details for the future protocol. Together with the US partners, GMR, and ACETECH we addressed vehicle performance concerns and made recommendations for improvements. Following the visit Zoom training sessions with the London team from Advanced Healthcare Technology improved the knowledge and use of the BabyPod transport unit.
A partnership agreement between the Honduran Red Cross, Hospital Escuela and Fundación Amigos del Fundación Amigos del Hospital María de Especialidades Pediatricias was created to provide service and build capacity prior to beginning longer runs to rural areas. A Study Agreement between RIT and the Honduran partners was established for a two year capacity building study. The aim is to support protocol development and assess vehicle readiness for transports of critically ill newborns outside the Tegucigalpa area.
