The transformative design and build out of a Toyota Land Cruiser into a state-of-the-art neonatal transport ambulance will offer much hope to first responders and babies in need of critical care in Honduras.

Some of the major project partners — including faculty and alumni of RIT Interior Design and leaders and employees from Global Medical Response and Acetech Global — gathered Friday December 17 2021 to celebrate the ambulance’s completion at the AMR NextFleet specialty vehicle manufacturing facility in Mineral Wells, Texas.

GMR’s fabrication team, along with interior designers from RIT, worked on the design development and custom buildout for the last two years. “Arca de Ángeles” — or “Angel’s Arc” — includes infant transport pods, life-saving equipment and storage for medical supplies. The vehicle will be donated to the Cruz Rojas Hondureña, or Honduran Red Cross (HRC), for service in the capital city of Tegucigalpa. Newborns will be transported by the HRC to Hospital Escuela, the country's largest public hospital, for treatment in the NICU.
