Important Dates

All students in RIT housing are encouraged to move out of RIT housing 24 hours after their last exam.  All students in RIT housing must move out no later than Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Graduating seniors and those working graduation have until Sunday, May 11, 2025, at noon to check out of RIT housing. RIT’s official move-out date is May 10, 2025. 

To assist students with the move out process, large gray moving carts will be available for sign-out on the first floor of both Kate Gleason Hall and Ellingson Hall. Please note personal items not removed from your room or apartment will be considered abandoned and may be disposed of in accordance with NY State Abandoned Property Rules. 

First-year students are given the opportunity to self-select their housing assignment and choose their roommate(s) during the Freshmen Room Selection process. You may choose either the residence halls or the RIT Inn during the selection process. Students who do not select a room during this process will be assigned to an available space by RIT Housing. Both of these first-year residence options are embedded in a learning community of diverse interests and lifestyles. RIT living is exciting and life changing no matter which option you choose!

All entering first-year students are required to live in one of RIT Housing’s first-year communities for their first academic year, with the exception of those who live within a 30-mile commuting distance with a parent.
