Students exhibit work at Metaproject May 18–21
Winners of Metaproject 02 chosen to be part of unique exhibit
The results of an interdisciplinary collaborative design project between Rochester Institute of Technology and Corning Museum of Glass are headed to design week in New York.
A team of students will exhibit their work from Metaproject 02 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 18–21 at WantedDesign, 269 11th Ave. There will be a press preview party from 5 to 7 p.m. May 18 in the exhibit space.
RIT’s Metaproject 02 partnered students from industrial design and glass programs with Corning Museum of Glass to explore design concepts that take advantage of glass as the primary material.
“I am really pleased by the level of imagination and freshness expressed by these designs,” Massimo Vignelli says. “Simple problems are the most difficult to solve, and these students have shown restraint and discipline along with imagination.”
The Vignelli philosophy was used as a teaching tool on the project, and Vignelli served as a juror linking the “Design is One” philosophy used by the Vignelli Center for Design Studies at RIT and student output.
A total of 18 RIT students will have their work from the project on exhibit.
A shuttle bus will be available from the International Contemporary Furniture Fair to WantedDesign from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. For more information on Metaproject, including a list and photos of the project, visit the Metaproject website.
