Ron Labaco
Ronald T. Labaco is the Marcia Docter Curator at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, where is he currently organizing the exhibition Out of Hand: Materializing the Postdigital, scheduled to open in November 2013. In his previous role as Curator of Decorative Arts and Design at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Mr. Labaco helped to develop and strengthen their permanent collection of late 20th- and early 21st-century design, documented in the exhibitions High Design (2011), Under Construction: Building a Contemporary Design Collection for the High (2010), Recent Acquisitions in Contemporary American Craft (2009-2010), Face Offs: Decorative Arts and Design (2008), and Toshiko Takaezu: Master Ceramist (2007). At the High he also served as co-curator of the exhibition The Allure of the Automobile: Driving in Style, 1935-1965 (2010) and co-author of the associated catalogue. As an independent curator he organized the exhibition Eva Zeisel: My Century (2006) for the Bard Graduate Center at the International Art + Design Fair, New York, and as the former Assistant Curator of Decorative Arts at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, he curated the exhibitions Ettore Sottsass (2006) and Peter Shire: The Los Angeles Connection to Memphis (2006), and co-authored the exhibition catalogue Ettore Sottsass: Architect and Designer (2006). Mr. Labaco holds a Masters of Arts in the History of Decorative Arts, Design History, and Material Culture from the Bard Graduate Center in New York City, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art from the University of California, Berkeley.
