Purpose: The purpose of this position is to provide computer and assistive technology training focused on increasing skills of DeafBlind participants. The ideal candidate will successfully provide services to adult DeafBlind learners who have a broad range of learning styles, computer experience, and communication modes. The focus is both work related computer and AT training needs as well as community and Independent Living technology training needs. It includes the development of curriculum and provides limited technical support to DeafBlind computer & assistive technology users in their homes and in TTC lab. Responsibilities: Teach computer and assistive technology skills to fully blind and low vision DeafBlind people in their homes or in TTC lab Provide skills assessment Develop written curriculum and pre-requisites for work related computer & IL classes; provide necessary supports Work with other agencies (like Dept of Services for the Blind) to improve relationships and provide excellent customer service Effectively communicate with team and participants Maintain files, provide documentation, data collection, reports, and summaries on time Provide referral to community technical support providers to DeafBlind computer users Participate in all DeafBlind program activities as appropriate Participate in all Lighthouse organization activities as appropriate Attend and assist with DeafBlind Retreat(s) Represent the Lighthouse in a positive manner at all times Perform other duties as assigned Minimum Requirements: BA or BS in Rehab, Computer, Education, Social Services or related field required 3 years in disability related field, with emphasis on teaching A minimum of 3 years working and socializing in the DeafBlind community Fluency in ASL required Very good knowledgeable of Braille related software and hardware, such as JAWS, MaGic, and braille displays is required Fluency in American Sign Language with an ability to work with a wide variety of language modes, including PSE and individuals who have limited language skills Knowledge of ZoomText a plus Knowledge of iOS a plus Demonstrated ability to support others to succeed Demonstrated ability to effectively teach others Ability to ensure a positive learning environment Strong interest and knowledge of equipment and technology Knowledgeable in MS Office applications Knowledgeable about assistive technology software and hardware Knowledge of BrailleNote and similar technologies Ability to read uncontracted Braille Willingness to learn contracted Braille Knowledge of and experience teaching assistive technology for low vision and blind consumers Able to problem solve independently Creativity & flexibility; ability to change approach as needed Willingness to work as a team member Ability to communicate effectively and enthusiastically about the programs and services we offer Provide excellent customer service Ability to take initiative, function autonomously, and be dependable Professional demeanor Demonstrated excellent written and interpersonal communication skills Mature judgment and sensitivity in interpersonal relations and among diverse groups Ability to work schedule as assigned The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, creed, color.
