From 6 July to 9 July 2015 members of the P-CEN team and their partners from the ASEAN region attended the 22nd Annual International Congress on the Education of the Deaf (ICED) in Athens, Greece. Led by Dr. James DeCaro, attendees were: Mary Lamb, Thomastine Sarchet, Nora B. Shannon and Patrick Smith from NTID; Theresa Christine DelaTorre, John Baliza, May Cabutihan, Raphael Dominguez, Liezel Reyes and Christina Sison from DLS-College of St. Benilde in the Philippines; Herve Roqueplan, Kimchhorn Hang from Krousar Thmey and Fr. Charles Dittmeier and Sophy Thuch from the Deaf Development Programme in Cambodia; Hoa Nyguen and Dr. James Woodward from Dong Nai University in Viet Nam.
All the members of the delegation from the College of St. Benilde had papers accepted for presentation at the conference: three papers discussed research findings and one described a process for enabling access for deaf individuals to a college program.
Attendance at the conference also afforded the opportunity for P-CEN partners to meet and discuss the work they have been doing under the auspices of P-CEN as well as discuss the transition of P-CEN headquarters from NTID/RIT in Rochester, New York to the College of St. Benilde in Manila in April 2016.
Activities sponsored by P-CEN include: Interpreter Education in Dong Nai, Viet Nam, a sign language project between Krousar Thmey and the Deaf Development Programme and teacher training courses in Cambodia, Teacher Education Institute, development of a Filipino Sign Language dictionary, a Research Coaching Program and continuation of work done with the Secondary Education Initiatives (SEcI) program with schools for the deaf in the Philippines.
