On April 5, 2011 - Minoru Yoshida, project coordinator for the Nippon Foundation and Nora Shannon, senior project associate for the P-CEN Project visited the Nakornpathom School for the Deaf near Bangkok, Thailand on April 5, 2011. Apinyarus Satawatthamrong, a graduate of the Masters of Science in Secondary Education of Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing program at NTID, conducted the tour of the school. 386 deaf students, who are in kindergarten through high school, study at the school. The essential ideas that represent the philosophy of the school are: to teach students how to be strong in academics, have good health, be virtuous, make progress in their occupations and depend upon themselves. Nakornpathom School for the Deaf has three strong vocational programs: jewelry, domestic production and electrical repair. Instruction in the elementary grades is based on the principles of Waldorf Schools. Teachers in Waldorf Schools are dedicated to generating an inner enthusiasm for learning within every child... allowing motivation to arise from within and helping engender the capacity for joyful lifelong learning. At the end of the tour, Yoshida and Shannon met Mr. Paitoon Sritong and Ms. Unawan Manjai, the director and vice director of the school.
