Philippine Secretary of Education Armin Luistro visited P-CEN on 8 November. The purpose of the trip was two-fold: a. to introduce him to the work of P-CEN, and b. to discuss a partnership between P-CEN and the Ministry of Education. Secretary Armin stated in a letter following his visit that, "Our exchange of ideas and views has further fueled my enthusiasm to innovate more in planning for and designing programmes that uplift the quality of education for our disadvantaged learners."
As a result of the visit, P-CEN is now developing (in collaboration with the College of Saint Benilde and the Ministry) and developing a series of training modules (based upon our Teacher Education Institute) that will be deployed in the provinces of the Philippines. The target population of this training will be faculty who educate students who are deaf in the mainstream. Between 25 and 30 teachers will be part of the pilot group.
