On 8 and 9 October, PEN-International Director DeCaro, RIT Vice President Hurwitz and PEN-International Coordinator Clymer, participated in PEPNet-Japan's conference and business meeting. Dr. Hurwitz presented a welcome at the conference opening and Drs. DeCaro and Hurwitz presented a paper at the conference plenary session (attended by more than 140 participants). The paper provided an overview of those programs and services available to support mainstreamed deaf students studying at Rochester Institute of Technology (see presentation).
On 9 October, the PEPNet-Japan team held its third business meeting (see the agenda). Each team working on various aspects of PEPNet-Japan reported progress to date. In each instance, outcomes and timelines are being met. At the business meeting, DeCaro briefed the team regarding the PEPNet Conference to be held in Louisville, Kentucky in April. In addition, Dr. Shirasawa discussed the budget for PEPNet-Japan's second year of operation. Subsequent to the meeting Dr. DeCaro approved that budget. He will be provided with a detailed plan for year two of PEPNet-Japan.
The next meeting of PEPNet-Japan will be held in October 2006 at Nihon Fukushi University.
