Students from the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology in the United States; Bauman Moscow State Technical University in Russia; De La Salle University College of St. Benilde in the Philippines; Tsukuba College of Technology in Japan; and Tianjin Technical College for the Deaf of Tianjin University of Technology in China participated in a WWW page design competition. Entrants from each institution were judged by a local panel of judges and the winner from each college received a digital camera donated to PEN-International by Eastman Kodak Company of Rochester, New York.
The purpose of the competition was to encourage creativity and originality in the design of a WWW page that communicated the diversity, culture and educational experiences offered at a student's respective institution.
The team from NTID was comprised of eight students in the Fundamentals of Network Publishing course of Professor A. Toscano in the Digital Imaging and Publishing Technology Department. The students took on the WWW design as a class project.
The TCT team was comprised of four students of Professor T. Araki's in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Tsukuba College of Technology. The group undertook the project as a community service to the Tsukuba Science Festival.
Feng Ma is majoring in computer science in the Tianjin Technical College for the Deaf at Tianjin University of Technology. He is from Jiang Su Province. His teachers refer to him as bright, hard working, and studious.
Ryan Jay S. Bernardo is 21 years old and is concentrating in Media Arts in the School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies at the De La Salle University-College of St. Benilde. He will pursue a career in multimedia arts after graduating from CSB.
Andrey Shmygol is studying for his Baccalaureate Degree in Data Security at Bauman Moscow State Technical University. He is mainstreamed with his hearing colleagues. Andrey is from Moscow and intends to work in business after graduation.
