On September 21st, PEN-International and the Department of Cultural and Creative Studies at NTID sponsored two presentations by distinguished scholars, Dr. Victor Palenny and Mr. Arkady Belozovsky, for the NTID/RIT community. Dr. Palenny, a professor in Russia and chief editor of the All Russian Federation of the Deaf monthly magazine VES, presented on Deaf Russian History, and Mr. Belozovsky, the first full-time deaf instructor of American Sign Language/ Deaf Studies at the Center for Language Studies at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, presented on the Deaf Intellectual Purge During the Stalin Era. Approximately 60 people attended for an afternoon of learning about Russia's fascinating deaf history.
