In an effort to enlist support for its long-range goals, members of the Postsecondary Education Network International (PEN-International) project visited Russia and the Czech Republic in November 2001.
Dr. James J. DeCaro, director of PEN-International, E. William Clymer, project coordinator, and NTID Professor Maria Shustorovich, project associate, visited Bauman Moscow State Technical University (BMSTU) and Charles University in Prague, two postsecondary institutions destined to play a role in PEN-International's ambitious agenda for expanding career education opportunities internationally for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
During their visit to Russia, DeCaro, Clymer and Shustorovich met with several key Russian Federation government officials, among them Dr.Y.Osipov, president of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Mr. A. Pochinok, minister of Labor and Social Development; and Mr. A. Kiselov, deputy minister for Education. All pledged support for the PEN-International project and expressed keen interest in following its development in Russia.
PEN-International delegates discussed designing, developing, and implementing the multimedia lab. Space for it was identified, uses were discussed, and preliminary specifications for the equipment needed to address those uses were determined.
