From 25 until 28 September 2005 a delegation from PEN-International (T. Alan Hurwitz, James J. DeCaro and E. William Clymer) visited the Korean Employment Promotion Agency for the Disabled to continue discussions as regards KEPAD joining with PEN-International to improve and expand educational opportunities for deaf men and women in Korea (see the itinerary). The delegation met with President Eunsoo Park and held a business meeting with the members of the delegation that will participate in training at PEN-International in the USA (see KEPAD staff who participated in the meeting). At the meeting Daisoon Chung and his colleagues presented a potential vision for an NTID-Korea effort (see the presentation).
Dr. DeCaro and Dr. Hurwitz presented to the assembled KEPAD staff regarding support services offered to students who are deaf at RIT (see the presentation). More than 90 staff members were in attendance.
In addition, the delegation visited the KEPAD Ilsan Vocational Competency Development Center and received an overview of the training programs offered by the center. Director of the Center, Haecheol Yang, presented to the delegation and conducted a tour of the facilities (see the presentation).
Further, the delegation met with Ki Seop Moon, Director of the Disability Development Team of the Ministry of Labor, to discuss how the government might collaborate with KEPAD and PEN-International to better the educational and employment circumstances of deaf people in Korea.
During the visit to KEPAD, final plans were made for a training session in the USA (29 October to 5 November).
