On 6 October, PEN visited the Center for Disabled Students at Hiroshima University. Hiroshima University is one of the founding members of PEPNet-Japan. The PEN delegation was introduced to the work of the center. Following a comprehensive overview of the center, Dr. DeCaro made a presentation to students, faculty members and members of the community regarding the support services and access services offered for deaf students who are mainstreamed in the colleges of RIT. Approximately 40 individuals attend the presentation.
On 11 October, PEN visited Doshisha University's Center for Disabled Students. Doshisha University is also a charter member of PEP-Net-Japan. The university is one of the pioneers in delivering support services at the tertiary level for students in Japan who are disabled. On 11 October, PEN also visited the Consortium of Universities in Kyoto. The consortium is comprised of colleges and universities in Kyoto that have come together to disseminate research results, exchange information and create an innovative system of lifelong learning. Consideration is being given to how this consortium can partner with PEPNet-Japan.
On 12 October the delegation visited Nihon Fukushi University and its Center for Disabled Students. Drs. DeCaro and Hurwitz presented a paper to an assembly of students, faculty and administrators in the university auditorium, and via videoconference to a remote site at another site of the university. A total of about 75 individuals participated.
