A delegation from Bauman Moscow State Technical University (NSTU), The Nippon Foundation, and PEN-International visited Novosibirsk State Technical University to discuss the university joining with Bauman and other universities to form PEN-Russia. The delegation met with officials of the university as well as with the Vice Governor of the city. In addition, a regional seminar was held at the University on 20 May which was attended by faculty members of NSTU, teachers from schools of the region, administrators and rehabilitation specialists. Approximately 50 individuals attended the seminar. At the seminar, Mr. Y. Ishii of The Nippon Foundation presented as regards the Foundation and its support for PEN-International. Further, Professor Maria Shustorovich (PEN facilitator for Russian operations) presented as regards PEN-International and program for deaf students at NTID. Finally, the delegation also met formally and informally with students and attended classes for students who are deaf at NSTU.
It was determined that NSTU would be an excellent partner in the PEN-Russia program. Further, it was determined that further plans would be made to bring NSTU into the PEN network of colleges and universities. Final arrangements will be made at the June Technology Symposium at NTID.
