On 31 July 2006, PEN-International director, James J. DeCaro, and Dr. T. Alan Hurwitz, RIT Vice President for NTID were accompanied by Mr. Gabor Horvath, Washington Bureau Chief of 'Nepszabadsag,' to a meeting with newly appointed USA Ambassador to Hungary, April Foley. The team discussed the work of PEN-International and NTID, and briefed the ambassador regarding the PEN-International initiative in Hungary that was initiated with the support of Hungarian Ambassador to the USA, Andras Simonyi, and the present Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Kinga Goncz.
The ambassador expressed strong interest in the effort and indicated her willingness to serve as an advocate for PEN's Hungarian Initiative.
