On 15 November 2006, Director Bao of PEN-China and Director DeCaro of PEN-International visited Chairman Deng PuFang of the China Disabled Persons' Federation. The meeting was attended by the leadership of the CDPF. At the meeting, the Chinese version of the report entitled Postsecondary Education for Deaf People in China: Issues, Roles, Responsibilities and Recommendations was formally presented to Mr. Deng (see the report in Chinese). In addition, Bao and DeCaro briefed Mr. Deng on the progress of PEN-China and the intention to expand the program to include another institution in the south-west of China. Finally, Dr. DeCaro relayed the personal greetings of Chairman Sasakawa of The Nippon Foundation - a personal friend of the Deng Family.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Deng expressed his personal support for the work of PEN-China and PEN-International. Further, he pledged that the CDPF would work to implement the recommendations of the report - indicating that some can be accomplished quickly but that others would take time.
