From 29 March to 4 April 2006 a delegation of eight university faculty members and administrators from across Japan, along with two Japanese Sign Language Interpreters and a representative of The Nippon Foundation of Japan, visited the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, to explore the methods and approaches used at NTID in providing support services to deaf postsecondary students. After an introduction to PEN-International, NTID and RIT, the delegation met with Dr. T. Alan Hurwitz, VP of RIT and Dean of NTID. Formal presentations and discussions focused on support for online and distance education, student and academic services, interpreting services, C-print and tutor/notetaking and training.
At the conclusion of the visitation to NTID, the delegation traveled to the 2006 national conference of PEPNet, held in Louisville, KY from 4-8 April, 2006.
