On 9 March 2006, Denise Kavin, Senior Project Associate for PEN-International and Patricia Mudgett DeCaro, Consultant for PEN-International, presented a 3-hour workshop on Classroom Communication for approximately 30 educators who work with deaf and hard-of-hearing students at the secondary and postsecondary levels in the Metropolitan Manila area.
During this workshop, information and materials were presented regarding assessment of deaf and hard of hearing students' communication needs, assessment of the instructor's own communication skills and knowledge, basic communication principles, benefits of effective communication, and tips for classroom communication in various situations and settings, and throughout different phases of instruction.
A list of online resources and references pertaining to the postsecondary education of deaf and hard-of-hearing students were also presented, which are included in the PowerPoint presentation file.
